Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs) seek to enhance community collaboration, increase community awareness and readiness, provide information and resources on substance use and related behavioral health data, support professional development of the prevention workforce and provide resources for evaluation activities within each service region.

The goals of PRC Region 1 include:

  • Maintaining and serving as the primary resource for substance use and related behavioral health data in the region.

  • Coordinating prevention strategies and resources across the region for prevention providers.

  • Strengthening compliance with existing laws preventing the sale of tobacco and nicotine products to minors through education and monitoring activities.

  • Increasing awareness of the community regarding substance use and misuse through the dissemination of information across a wide variety of media outlets and distribution networks.

  • Comprehensive substance use prevention education for schools, organizations, and businesses.

Texas is split into 11 different Prevention Resource Centers. Region one is the largest geographically at 39,348.3 square miles. Region 1 encompasses 41 counties, including Armstrong, Bailey, Briscoe, Carson, Castro, Childress, Cochran, Collingsworth, Crosby, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Dickens, Donley, Floyd, Garza, Gray, Hale, Hall, Hansford, Hartley, Hemphill, Hockley, Hutchinson, King, Lamb, Lipscomb, Lubbock, Lynn, Moore, Motley, Ochiltree, Oldham, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, Swisher, Terry, Wheeler and Yoakum.
